In today’s fast-moving world, one needs time to disconnect and recharge. A favourite corner for your ‘me time’ can act as a necessary space for relaxing and the well-being of your mental health. Whether it’s a cosy space with fluffy cushions and carpet, a coffee table and chair by the window, or a peaceful corner in your living room, having a favourite corner for your ‘me time’ has many benefits.
It helps us by reducing stress, increasing productivity, and enhancing creativity, providing a sense of relief amidst a chaotic life. This corner serves as a haven, allowing you to perform activities that nourish your mind, such as reading, painting, meditating, or just self-reflecting. It would become like your personal favourite place where you can disconnect from the world and reconnect with yourself.
Your ‘me time’ corner
Creating a ‘me time’ corner is a simple yet transformative process. According to Trina Roy, co-founder of Wood Be Done, one of the steps is to find a quiet, cosy spot in your house where you can relax without getting distracted. "Ideally, the space chosen by you should be in a very peaceful, low-traffic environment," she says.
Space with Natural Sunlight
If possible, choose your space with natural sunlight so that you can enjoy the sunlight during the day. "The presence of natural sunlight improves our mood while creating a very positive, warm environment," Roy says, adding that if you don’t have any good space options near a window or any source for natural sunlight, then an ambient light source like a floor lamp or fairy lights can help you in creating an inviting atmosphere.
Comfortable Furniture
Comfort is very important while creating your personal corner. The furniture that you choose should encourage relaxation, such as a cosy chair, a comfortable cushion, or a rug that would go with your personal space. "The more comforting your space is, the more likely you will return to it when you need some ‘me time’," Roy adds. You can also add a side table and place your favourite coffee mug along with a fragrance candle and even a small plant to set the ambiance.
Set the Mood Right
The next thing would be the mood that you want to create. The colours and décor that you choose will impact the overall ambiance of your space. If you want a calm and peaceful environment, Roy says, soft pastels or neutrals would be perfect. If you want a vibrant environment, then soft yellows or greens would be your best choice.
Personalise Your Corner
You can make this corner your own by personalising it. Like, you can add your favourite scented candle and keep your favourite books to make it feel like yours. "Scented candles play a very vital role in relaxation, creating a soothing atmosphere for your mind and body. Comfortable rugs, blankets, or pillows will add cosiness and warmth to your space," she says.
