Social media has become an interactive way to connect with your well-wishers. However, some like to troll and make the other person feel bad about their weight, looks and whatnot. Recently, Telugu actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu who is currently busy promoting her upcoming series 'Citadel: Honey Bunny' took the opportunity to connect with fans and answer their questions over Instagram. The actress took to her Instagram Stories on Monday to host an interactive Q&A session with her fans. However, one comment from a social media user led to Samantha addressing the issue of body shaming head-on. A user asked Samantha to "bulk up" a bit.
“Another weight comment. I saw an entire thread about my weight. If you guys must know, I am on a strict anti-inflammatory diet which is required for my condition, which prevents me from putting on weight, keeps me in a certain weight bracket and keeps me in a sweet spot with my condition (myositis). Stop judging people. Let them be, live and let live. Please guys, it's 2024,” Samantha replied with a video message.
Last year, Samantha opened up about her struggle with myositis. This autoimmune condition attacks a patient's muscles by its own immune system and is quite painful. Myositis causes severe pain in the muscles, and weakness in muscles and makes it very difficult to perform day-to-day activities hence, Samantha was reportedly taking immunity-boosting therapies in Hyderabad while also looking for Ayurvedic remedies for her medical condition.
For Samantha Ruth Prabhu, an anti-inflammatory diet is essential. This dietary approach not only helps her manage symptoms but also prevents the weight gain often associated with myositis treatments.
Anti-Inflammatory Diet for Myositis
- High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fatty fish (like salmon and mackerel), chia seeds, flaxseeds, and walnuts, have potent anti-inflammatory properties. They can help reduce muscle inflammation and improve muscle recovery. Samantha incorporates these foods regularly to help control inflammation levels and manage myositis symptoms naturally.
- Rich in Antioxidant-Rich Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in vitamins A, C, and E, are excellent for reducing oxidative stress. Berries, leafy greens, oranges, and carrots are staples in Samantha’s diet to promote cellular repair, boost immunity, and protect against inflammation. This antioxidant-rich approach helps prevent further muscle damage and maintains energy levels.
- Whole Grains for Sustained Energy
Refined grains can cause spikes in blood sugar, leading to increased inflammation. Whole grains like quinoa, oats, and brown rice are slow-digesting and offer sustained energy, which is essential for people with myositis who often experience fatigue.
- Lean Protein Sources
Protein is essential for muscle maintenance and repair, especially in conditions like myositis. Lean sources such as chicken, turkey, tofu, and legumes provide necessary amino acids without excessive saturated fats. These help her maintain muscle mass without triggering inflammation associated with high-fat meats.
- Low in Added Sugars and Processed Foods
Sugary and processed foods contribute to chronic inflammation. Samantha limits her intake of sugary snacks, sodas, and highly processed foods. Instead, she opts for natural sugars from fruits and minimizes artificial additives, which helps to manage her condition and maintain stable energy levels.
- Healthy Fats from Nuts, Seeds, and Olive Oil
Nuts, seeds, and olive oil are rich in healthy monounsaturated fats, which are beneficial for reducing inflammation without promoting weight gain. These sources provide essential fats that improve cellular function and immunity, which is crucial for someone with an autoimmune disorder like myositis.
- Herbs and Spices with Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Herbs like turmeric, ginger, and garlic are known for their anti-inflammatory benefits. Turmeric contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant, while ginger and garlic are anti-inflammatory agents that can help alleviate muscle pain.
